2008 WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE

Brooklyn, NY -- The Medgar Evers College 2008 women’s volleyball schedule will get underway in early September with an exciting slate of matches.

The Lady Cougars will start the season off on Saturday, September 6 when they open up at SUNY-Purchase. They will then travel to Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) rivals Yeshiva University the following day, on Sunday, September 7, to participate in a tri-match against the host school and the College of St. Elizabeth.

Medgar Evers College’s home opener will be against City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) opponents the College of Staten Island on Tuesday, September 16. This will be followed by three more home games against; the College of St. Elizabeth on Wednesday, September 17 and on Saturday, September 20 against Sarah Lawrence College and Cooper Union in a tri-match. The home stand will end on Tuesday, September 23, when the Lady Cougars take on CUNYAC cross town rival Brooklyn College.

The Medgar Evers College women’s volleyball team competes in the CUNYAC against Baruch, Brooklyn, City College of New York, Hunter, John Jay, Lehman, New York City College of Technology, Staten Island and York. On Saturday, November 1, the CUNYAC Tournament begins, with champions receiving an automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament.

Medgar Evers College also competes in the HVWAC against the College of New Rochelle, the College of St. Elizabeth, Pratt, St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn), Sarah Lawrence and Yeshiva. The HVWAC Tournament begins on Wednesday, October 29.

Medgar Evers College is coming off a 16-12 season in 2007. Head Coach Avril O’Neal anticipates several players to return for the 2008 campaign, including sophomore Jasmine Gonzalez who, as freshman, was a First Team All-Conference Player in both the CUNYAC and the HVWAC.
