BEAVERS DEFEAT THE COUGARS
New York, NY- The Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-24 Overall, 0-13 CUNY) lost to the City College Beavers (2-21 Overall, 2-11 CUNY), 84-68 on Friday February.13, 2009 at City College in Upper Manhattan.
The Beavers outscored the Cougars 33-29 at the break. The Cougars shot 39.3 percent from the field (11-28 FG), 25 percent from long distance (2-8 3Pt. Range), and 83.3 percent from the free throw line (5-6 FT/FTA). The Beavers shot 35.7 percent from the field (15-42 FG), 16.7 percent from long distance 2-12(3Pt. range), and 20 percent from the free throw line (1-5 FT/FTA).
In the second half, the Beavers outscored the Cougars 51-39 and that would propel them to victory. The Beavers shot 51.3 percent from the field (20-39), 42.9 percent from long distance 3-7 (3Pt. Range), and 61.5 percent from the free throw line (8-13 FT/FTA). The Cougars shot 45.5 percent from the field (15-33 FG), 20 percent from long distance 1-5 (3Pt. Range), and 57.1 percent from the free throw line (8-14 FT/FTA).
The Cougars in the loss were led by
Ronald Holloway who tallied 20 points (9-19 FG, 0-3 3Pt. Range, 2-4 FT/FTA). He also tallied six rebounds, an assist, and four steals.
Kallai Sharpe tallied 17 points and got credited with six assists.
Kris Deriggs tallied 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to complete a double double.
The Beavers in the win were led by Andrew Munglin who tallied 24 points (9-17 FG, 1-3 3Pt. Range, and 5-6 FT/FTA). He also grabbed six rebounds, had four assists, and five steals. Xavier Gonzalez tallied 12 points. Vincent Roberts and Brandon Mellette each tallied 10 points. Jeff Woods led the game with 20 rebounds.
The Medgar Evers Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday February 18, 2009 at Pratt University. The game time is 7:30pm.
